Agreed Report of Board of Management Meeting:
Attendance:
Ms. Johnston (Chairperson), Ms. Doyle, Ms. Pheasey, Ms. Cullen, Mr. Gaynor, Ms. Foley, Mr. Gayer and Ms. Harpur.
As Secretary to the Board, Mr. Mc Ginnity also attended.
Minutes:
The minutes of the last meeting (10 February 2025) were approved following the proposal of Ms. Foley, seconded by Ms. Pheasey.
Correspondence:
The publication of recent Circulars and JMB Bulletins was noted by Mr. Mc Ginnity. A summary of items relevant to the post-primary sector was provided to those present.
Requests for leave were considered.
Correspondence in relation to use of the school by third parties over the summer was discussed.
Health and Safety:
Mr. Mc Ginnity noted that Mr. Derek Madden (Health and Safety Manager) had recently visited the school. It was noted that one further fire drill was scheduled for this school year.
Building Updates:
Mr. Mc Ginnity provided an update in relation to work scheduled for the summer holidays.
Finance Report:
An Income and Expenditure report, covering the period from 1 September 2024, was presented to members.
Mr. Mc Ginnity presented an OLCS report.
Child Protection:
Mr. Mc Ginnity presented the Board with a Child Protection Oversight Report covering the period since the last meeting on 10 February 2025. A copy of the report is attached to the minutes.
Anti-Bullying:
Mr. Mc Ginnity presented the anti-bullying report.
School Planning/Teaching and Learning:
Mr. Mc Ginnity informed the Board that the report of the Mathematics Inspection had now been published online.
In relation to planning for the 2025/26 school year, Mr. Mc Ginnity noted that detailed planning was ongoing.
A draft Sustainability Policy was considered by those present.
Mr. Mc Ginnity noted that, following feedback from all parties, students entering 5th year in September 2025 will not be asked to purchase a device.
Leadership and Management:
An update in relation to Assistant Principal posts was provided by Mr. Mc Ginnity.
Principal’s Report:
Mr. Mc Ginnity mentioned the following in his report:
- An update on the progress of the various teams and squads was provided
- Other events were highlighted, including the 3rd Year Dance competition and the Junk Kouture regional final
- The distribution of Junior Cycle Profiles of Achievement
- Mr. Mc Ginnity reported on the work of the Green Schools’ Committee
- Success at the Student Enterprise Awards was mentioned.
- Recent TY activities were summarised, including a Music Trip to Dublin, Concern Talk, First Aid, Self – Defence, Line Dancing Workshop; Circus Skills Workshop, an English Trip to Macbeth and the completion of Mock Interviews
- The successful completion of recent events was highlighted – Multicultural Week (24 – 28 Feb), various bake sales and initiatives as part of Classroom Based Assessments (CBAs), 1st Year Talk from The Book Centre as part of World Book Day and a Drop Everything and Read initiative, 5th and 6th Year Music Trip to Dublin, activities for Seachtain na Gaeilge, an Agricultural Science Trip to Kildalton and Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week
- Upcoming events were summarised for Board members.
