History of our school:

The school was established in 1866 by the sisters of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM), better known as the Loreto Sisters. The Institute itself was founded by Mary Ward, one of the first women educationalists, who established schools in England and throughout Europe. In 1821, Frances Teresa Ball established the first Irish foundation in Rathfarnham, Dublin.

From 1867 to 2017, the school was located on Spawell Road in Wexford town. In 2018, we moved to our current site here in Pembroke Hill. Built as part of the Public Private Partnership (PPP, Bundle 5), the school has superb facilities for its 900 students, allowing us to offer an incredibly broad curriculum and programme of co and extra-curricular activities.

Today, the Loreto network extends to 18 post primary schools, 9 primary schools and 5 community schools. In addition to these schools, Sr. Orla Treacy leads our school in Rumbek, South Sudan. Loreto, Wexford is proud of its long tradition as part of this community of learners and looks forward to the future on our current campus.
