Welcome Back

As we begin the final term, I express the hope that all members of the school community had a pleasant Easter. I extend my best wishes to all staff, students and parents as we work through the final few weeks of the school year.

Equestrian Success

On Sunday, 2 April, the school secured the Interschools Ireland Novice League title by placing first and second on the day. This title represents the culmination of a long season of hard work, dedication, practice, and perseverance. Great credit is extended to all Loreto riders, and we commend them for their commitment over the year. We thank Ms. Martin and Mr. Grace for all their assistance throughout the season.

Biodiversity Competition – report by Ms. S. Flynn

On Wednesday 19th April, our Justice and Peace group was awarded 2nd place in the Loreto biodiversity competition. We are delighted with our achievement and would like to share our entry with the Loreto Wexford community.

Our Loreto ARK started off as a piece of forgotten, unused land, until the Justice and Peace group took an interest. We have increased the school’s eco-footprint, bio-diversity levels and once finished will provide a safe space for students to be at one with nature. We have allowed the present plants to grow as they wish, such as the willow trees. We created a winding path using old Christmas trees as mulch. As part of the ARK, we have outdoor classroom for the whole school community to enjoy. Before summer, we will sow native wildflowers, plant various trees including apple, pear, and mountain ash to encourage pollinators to visit. We have recently installed bat boxes and in the future hope to have a pond. Our project encourages biodiversity by giving plant and animal a safe space that supports everything they need to survive and thrive.

Forthcoming Events

  • Down Syndrome Awareness Day, led by Sophie and Katie Ennis and the Inclusion Committee – Friday, 28 April.
