Matters Arising

Going forward, only matters discussed during the meeting will appear in the minutes.

School Planning Group

The Transition year programme is currently being reviewed. This will be implemented in Sept 2025. It will include a review of core subjects as part of TY and these are independent of the Leaving Cert programme. There is a focus on critical thinking, project work and peer learning

Statement of Strategy for School Attendance

The schools strategy for school attendance was discussed. Mr O Dowd explained the new absent text that goes out daily and a text sent when students sign in and out for appointments.

It is noted that there is no Education Welfare Officer in place for Leinster at present. An attendance drive is ongoing in the school at the present time.

Parents’ Council Funds

This will be dealt with in discussions re Parents’ Council Constitution

Ideas for 6th years/Comprehensive Revision Pack for LC Students

Potential ideas to help support 6th years include a kettle (or burco) for evening study time and an extra panini maker for 5th & 6th years, which could be placed near the microwaves.

An email was received from inspire education re study and revision packs available for LC students at a cost of €80 per pack. Catriona Foley is meeting focus groups for study tips etc.

Graduation Pin

Some samples have been received. Other suggested ideas include water bottles, mugs etc. Mr O’ Dowd will do some research with the 6th year team to see what they would like.

Membership of the National Parents’ Council

The cost of membership is €100/year (this is based on the number of pupils in the school). The NPC provides training in various different areas for parents. Would potentially be funded by the parents’ council.

Financial Report

The treasurer had sent her apologies. Unfortunately, there are ongoing issues with documentation in relation to bank accounts and a letter is now required from the Board of Management, which is being addressed.

Book Club

This is paused for the present time.

Parents’ Council Constitution

This should be reviewed at the beginning of the year each year. Section C – Objectives was reviewed and a suggestion was made that this be re-worded from a parents’ perspective. It was decided to put this towards the top of the agenda for the next meeting.

AOB

A discussion re lunch time activities with respect to outside activities took place. Doors are open at lunchtime to allow students to go outside. However, it is noticed that very few do. There is a walking group each Wednesday and 6th Year students are permitted to go to Min Ryan park on Friday.

Next Meeting: Monday 3rd March
