Attendance:

Ms. Johnston (Chairperson), Ms. Doyle, Ms. Pheasey, Ms. Cullen, Mr. Gaynor, Ms. Foley, Mr. Gayer and Ms. Harpur.

As Secretary to the Board, Mr. Mc Ginnity also attended.

Minutes:

The minutes of the last meeting (31 March 2025) were approved following the proposal of Ms. Harpur, seconded by Ms. Foley.

Correspondence:

The publication of recent Circulars and JMB Bulletins was noted by Mr. Mc Ginnity. A summary of items relevant to the post-primary sector was provided to those present.

Requests for leave were considered.

Health and Safety:

Mr. Mc Ginnity noted that an unannounced fire drill had been completed in April.

Building Updates:

Mr. Mc Ginnity provided an update in relation to the hockey pitch.

Finance Report:

An Income and Expenditure report, covering the period from 1 September 2024, was presented to members.

Mr. Gaynor summarised the main points from a Finance committee meeting held in the week prior to the Board meeting.

Mr. Mc Ginnity presented an OLCS report.

Child Protection:

Mr. Mc Ginnity presented the Board with a Child Protection Oversight Report covering the period since the last meeting on 31 March 2025. A copy of the report is attached to the minutes.

Anti-Bullying:

Mr. Mc Ginnity presented the anti-bullying report.  

School Planning/Teaching and Learning:

The calendar for the new school year was approved.

In relation to planning for the 2025/26 school year, Mr. Mc Ginnity provided an update on staffing levels, timetabling and the schoolbooks scheme.

Three policies were approved by the Board – Bí Cinéalta (anti-bullying), Sustainability Policy and Special Education Teaching Policy.  

Leadership and Management:

Mr. Mc Ginnity noted that all Assistant Principals had submitted their annual reports and that these would be summarised for Board members at the next meeting.

Principal’s Report:

Mr. Mc Ginnity mentioned the following in his report:

  • Success for soccer/football/camogie teams – 1st year soccer and football teams were crowned Leinster champions with U-14 football and camogie teams also victorious
  • Athletics – South Leinster success
  • TY – Professions Week; 1798 Tour; TY Sand sculpting Trip
  • Visit from Special Olympics (Wexford Branch)
  • 5th Years – SETU Trip
  • Emerald Park – 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year Tours
  • Drama Club Showcase
  • Cycle against Suicide events
  • Loreto Pilgrimage to Knock involving the Ember and JP II Groups
  • Visit of Bishop Ger Nash
  • Childhood Cancer fundraiser and activities
  • Meeting between the senior management team and Malcolm Byrne (TD) to discuss mental health support for students outside of school
  • Sports Day – Friday, 16 May
  • Summer Exams for 1st, 2nd and 5th year students
  • 6th Year Graduation and TY Graduation ceremonies
