Christmas Week – report by Krishna Ramesh, Students’ Council PRO

It’s finally come to the last few school days of 2018 and we’re all longing for the holidays. Activities had been planned for nearly the whole week including the TY trade fair, 6th Year show, the Christmas carol Service and, of course, the quiz. To add to the festivities, the Students’ Council made sure there was something to look forward to every day.

We began the week by hiding loads of treats like candy canes and chocolate coins around the school for students to find at break on Monday. At lunch, Elf on the Shelf, Kevin and Katie the carrot had also been hidden and found for prizes. On Tuesday, we held a quiz on famous quotes from popular Christmas movies. Lastly, we held a Christmas accessories day on Wednesday where you could wear your favourite Christmas accessories into school along with your uniform, the wackier the better!

We believe Christmas week is a highly important week in Loreto. It is our chance to relax after all the hard work we put in so far this year, in our studies, in our exams and in other aspects of school. While we are aware that there will be a lot of work to be done upon our return in January, we believe we should use this time to celebrate and have fun (and catch up on some sleep!).

‘Til 2019, the Students’ Council wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Letter to families – 20 December 2018

In consultation with the psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS) and the HSE Suicide Resource Office, the principals of all five post-primary schools in Wexford town have issued a joint letter to parents/guardians in their respective schools.

The letter reflects the anguish of the local community following recent tragic deaths and is intended to help parents/guardians as they care for their children, our students, in these trying times.

The letter may be viewed in the letters to families section of our school website.
