Inclusion Committee: Multicultural Week 2023 Update – by Emma Daly (TY student)
This year, Loreto’s Multicultural Week will take place on the week beginning 27th February. The theme of the week is to celebrate and educate.
As a committee, we have decided that we would like to focus on educating people about different cultures this year as well as celebrating them. Our aim is that every student in the school will learn at least one new piece of information about a culture other than their own.
During our meetings, we made a plan of some events for the week;
- Tuesday 28th of February: Loreto will hold Hijab Day, led by Yosra El Hussein, 3.2 who will be shedding light on the press surrounding Hijabs to all members of our school community, particularly her own year group.
- Wednesday 1st of March:
- Cultural stands will be set up in the school where students will represent their countries. Students will have time to visit these stalls where they can ask representatives about their culture. Traditional food will also be available.
- A fashion show will take place displaying traditional clothing from each country represented. A quick interview will take place at the end of their walk where they might be asked about the clothes they are wearing, their culture, etc.
- During this week, Malavika Manoj will present a five-minute video about different cultures which will be shown to different classes.
- To end Multicultural Week on Friday 3rd of March, Loreto will celebrate Japan Day.
