Minutes Silence
The meeting was opened by S Boland O’Brien who proposed a minutes silence for the late Ms Tanya Whelan, (former teacher in Loreto) and the late Mr Eoin Crosbie, brother of past member Lisa Mc Auley. May they rest in peace.
Congratulations
Congratulations were extended to the Leaving Cert Students on their recent successes and good luck was extended to the Junior Cycle students.
Minutes
The minutes of the last meeting were proposed by C Callan and seconded by S Boland O’Brien
Financial Report
The current account balance is €2578.96. Banking fees from 1/09/23 to 23/03/24 amounted to €56.86. The bank will be contacted in relation to the fees.
Student Behaviour Monitoring
Student behaviour monitoring was the focus of the school self-evaluation in 2024-25. Behaviour will continue to be monitored through the tab in VS Ware, but there will be no negative or positive marks associated. The number of occurrences will be recorded with neutral comments. A merit page has been introduced in the journal with bronze, silver and gold postcards sent home based on merit points.
Parent Nominations for the Board of Management
The current Board of Management ceases on 15/10/2025. Over the coming days, Mr McGinnity will send an email asking parents to nominate themselves for potential election to the BOM. Polling cards will be sent home with each student and parents will be asked to vote.
Special Education Teaching (SET) and Special/Additional Educational Needs policy
This policy has been updated to include new terminology. Mr O’Dowd outlined the changes made. This will now be brought to the BOM for ratification and subsequently uploaded to the website.
Parents Council Constitution
It was agreed this would be looked at over the coming year
Social Media & Screen time
It was agreed that sourcing a guest speaker for parents on this subject would be looked at again after the AGM.
AOB
- The annual open night for 6th class students is scheduled for 25/09/25. PC members are asked to help with teas/coffees on the night.
- The possibility of meeting with head girls/student council, potentially for the November meeting was raised.
- The Parents Council AGM is scheduled for Monday 15th Sept, 25.
- A discussion was had regarding increasing parental interest/involvement in Parents’ Council. The PC meeting agenda is now put on the Friday updates on the website and app. A text message is also sent for the meeting. It was suggested that parents be encouraged to have push notifications switched on, on the App. The previously suggestion of a Parents’ Council member speaking at the individual year meetings was once again put forward.
- A number of suggestions were made regarding fundraising. S Boland O’Brien will make enquiries regarding permits for both car parking and can collection.
