Meeting Report: 2 December 2024

Minutes
The minutes of the last meeting were proposed by N Carty and seconded by E Harpur.
Matters arising:
Mr O’Dowd will survey the students wishes regarding the use of sandwich toasters in the students kitchen during breaks.
Vending Machine; the content of the vending machines were raised and potential availability of Monster etc. Mr O’Dowd informed the meeting that these items were only in the vending machine for the weekend of the elections.
Under the topic of ‘Gaining interest in Parents Council’, a suggestion had been made to ‘provide purpose and remit of Parent Council meeting to all parents, not just those attending, including those that are not in attendance at the AGM’. They also mentioned that under matters arising ‘A suggestion was made that submitting for items that need more time than the parents council monthly meeting can allow’.
School Planning Group
A suggestion was made by a parent that management would include dates of School Planning Group meetings and topics for discussion at the beginning of the year. The SPG is currently reviewing the transition year programme.
Financial Report
Our current balance is €2608.96
Arrangements are being made with the bank regarding change of signatories on cheques etc to reflect new officers.
Graduation Pin
Mr O’Dowd has got quotes from 3 companies for potential pins. He will look for a sample of the pin in order to further evaluate.
Book Club
Due to difficulty accessing a supply of books at the moment, this was deferred for the moment.
School Rules
- The issue of the school scarf and colour of same was raised. Mr O’Dowd confirmed that the official scarf colour is red.
- The question of whether senior students could sign themselves out of school without parental consent was raised. This is not the case and a note is needed for home in order for a student to leave school
- The issue of availability of toilets was raised. Mr O’Dowd confirmed that the toilets on the 1st floor have been changed to 1st year only. All other toilets are available for all students. There are 2 sets of toilets on each floor.
AOB
- The Christmas Night out I the Whitford has been postponed until Spring.
- Mr O’Dowd thanked everyone involved in the recent and very successful Careers night. 288 senior students attended from the Loreto alone and the feedback was excellent. He also thanked the Parents Council for the raffle donation. I
- The school Christmas Fair is taking place Saturday 7th December 11-2
