Soccer Update – report by Nicole Lageu (TY)

On December 20th, our second-year soccer team engaged in another league match against Bridgetown.

The game kicked off with both teams displaying strong performances. Loreto took an early lead with a goal from our number 9, Hannah O’Brien Leahy, swiftly followed by another goal from Emma McEldowney, number 10, bringing the score to 2-0 in Loreto’s favour.

Bridgetown attempted a comeback, but an aggressive tackle by Loreto’s Holly Quill resulted in Loreto’s first yellow card in a soccer match. Fortunately, solid defence from Aoibheann Clarke prevented Bridgetown from capitalising on the resulting free kick.

Approaching the end of the first half, Emma McEldowney scored two more impressive goals, while a goal from Izzy Carney, number 11, unfortunately, was disallowed.

Both teams continued to showcase impressive skills in the second half, with Loreto persistently driving forward. Emma McEldowney netted another remarkable goal, solidifying Loreto’s lead. Despite Bridgetown’s fierce efforts, a corner kick resulted in another goal, this time from our number 7, Laragh Walsh. As the second half drew to a close, Bridgetown managed to score a goal through their number 11.

The match showcased an outstanding display of soccer on the Loreto pitch, culminating in a well-deserved 6-1 victory for our team. We extend our best wishes to Bridgetown for their future games.
