News update
Class teachers are currently facilitating the election of prefects in their respective groups. When this is done the Prefects’ Council will then begin to function for the year to ensure that students are active participants in the running of the school.
There was great excitement in the school on Wednesday, 12 September when 117 students received their Junior Certificate results. Reaction from both students and staff was extremely positive and all are to be congratulated on their great success and hard work invested therein. The school’s Academic Council will shortly be carrying out a detailed review of this year’s Junior and Leaving Certificate results that will be shared with the full school community in the coming weeks.
The attention of parents is drawn to last week’s letter to families in which a parent nominee to the Board of Management is being sought. The vacancy arises following the departure from the Board of Mr. Patrick Clancy whose contribution to the school in recent years was immense.
Our new building
- Classes and normal school activities are now progressing very smoothly in our new school – to everyone’s immense relief!
- Remaining issues will be addressed by the relevant contractors in the coming weeks, most particularly the GAA pitch and the polytunnel.
- We have all witnessed the traffic congestion at the close of school each day, particularly so on Mondays and Tuesdays. Whilst the congestion eases after 20-25 minutes, the situation would be greatly helped by co-operation and consideration being shown by all road users. It is essential that bus bays and drop off zones are used for their intended purposes only and that nobody parks in a manner that causes a disruption to others. Wexford County Council and Bus Eireann are actively monitoring the situation.
- It remains our intention to hold an Open Morning for families in the coming weeks to give everyone the opportunity to walk through the new school and grounds. A date for this will be announced shortly.
Forthcoming events
All Transition Year students will travel to Carne on Thursday, 20 September for their start-of-year bonding experience that includes an overnight stay.
We will welcome 40 students and 3 teachers from our partner school in Villingen, Germany when they make their annual visit to Wexford next week. They have been following the saga of our new school building for several years past and now look forward to seeing the finished product. We are most appreciative of the great work that is put into this long-lasting exchange programme by the teachers in both schools.
