8 April 2016

This is a very busy time for 3rd and 6th year students and their teachers. Mock examination reports have been posted to all families and final preparations are being made for the oral and practical examinations that will take place over the next two weeks. There are now 61 days to the commencement of the State examinations so this really is the time for all students to be making their best possible effort whilst at the same time minding their physical and mental health.

ROME1

It is good to report that all students and staff returned safely after two memorable trips to Rome and Lavarone over the Easter holiday.

The school is keen to say a particular thank you to the teachers involved in planning and supervising these trips. That the trips passed off so enjoyably and smoothly is testament to this work and also to the very high levels of behaviour displayed by students. Well done to all!

Transition Year students begin their two week work experience placement on Monday, 11 April 2016. We hope that this will be of benefit to all 120 students as they begin to contemplate possible future career paths.

Special message re: County Wexford Youth Orchestra

My name is Emily Redmond and I am the conductor of the County Wexford Youth Orchestra (CWYO), which is based at the County Wexford School of Music, Summerhill, Wexford Town.

I just wanted to let you know that a number of students from your school have been chosen to travel to Italy this July with CWYO to represent Ireland at an International Orchestra Festival. Rebecca White, Aisling Gouldson, Aine O’Brien, Beth Powell, Megan Flanagan, Doireann O’Sullivan and Laura Carr are the students from your school who were picked. The Festival will include orchestras from Austria, Spain, Slovakia and Italy. CWYO has almost 50 players from all over County Wexford (Bunclody, Enniscorthy, New Ross, Gorey and Wexford Town) but we had to select a smaller group for this particular trip. So the girls auditioned and were successful in gaining a place in the orchestra.

I decided to email all of the schools with students involved in this festival, in case you would like to feature it in your school newsletter or through class tutors etc. We are holding a youth quiz this Friday 8th April at 8pm in the Talbot Hotel, Wexford Town to fundraise for the trip. If any school would like to advertise this event in their school we would be very grateful.

If you would like to know any more information about the Music Festival in Italy that the girls will be part of, please don’t hesitate to contact me. My phone number is 087 6847326 or the School of Music phone number is 0549141284.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message and a big congratulations to the girls again.
