A flavour of events for next week…………..

Subject choice lists will be published on Tuesday. Any students seeking a change at this stage should see Mr. O’ Shea to discuss the matter.

Our school is hosting the annual Inter-Schools Loreto Golf Tournament in Wexford on Tuesday. Good luck to all participants.

Interviews for Head Girls, 2016/2017 will be held on Wednesday.

All Transition Year students head to Glendalough on Thursday and Friday. Let’s hope the sun shines!

The School Planning Group has put in place a process to develop a new School Improvement Plan (SIP) following an exercise in School Self-Evaluation (SSE). It is hoped to complete this work over the coming months so as to have a new 4 year plan in place by the end of September 2016.

The process is as follows:

Evaluate the current SIP under the following headings:

1. Teaching of study skills: learning to learn.

2. Literacy skills: current affairs/ reading for enjoyment/ tablet skills.

3. Extent of career guidance provision.

4. Amount of homework at senior cycle.

5. The issue of grinds, particularly at senior cycle.

6. Student support- services perceived badly by students.

7. Methods of test correction/ written work correction.

8. Teacher well-being.

Engage in a new round of SSE to identify current strengths and areas for improvement:

Surveys of parents, students, staff

Targeted focus groups

Development of a draft SIP (1 September 2016 to 31 August 2020) under the following headings:

1. Changing school context

2. School Ethos

3. Support measures for all

4. Curriculum

5. Teaching and Learning

6. School Leadership

7. Areas of strength – how to maintain

8. Areas for improvement – targets and means

Modus Operandi

Committee of staff:

- reporting to Principal

- liaising with School Planning Group

- consulting with all partners

- drafting new SIP

- consulting with all partners

- submission to Board of Management for decision

The Board of Management wishes to announce its appointment of Ms. Chris O’ Reilly to the position of Deputy Principal in this school with effect from 1 September 2016.

Ms. O’ Reilly has taught Irish and History in this school since 1994 and has also held in-school management positions during her time in Loreto.

The Board wishes Ms. O’ Reilly every future success and happiness in this important leadership position and pledges its full support to her at all times.

She replaces the outgoing Deputy Principal, Sr. Carmel, who retires on 31 August 2016.
