School re-opens after the snow
The most severe snowfall in Wexford since 1947 resulted in the enforced closure of the school for three days – 1,2 and 5 March. A digger was employed for most of last Monday to clear the car parks and pathways around the school. Happily, no damage was caused to the school and normal teaching and learning has since resumed.
All teachers will work closely with their students to ensure that coursework is completed in the remaining eleven weeks of the current school year. Tuition time will be prioritised over co- and extra-curricular activities, especially in relation to 3rd and 6th year students. In addition, supervised study will be provided for 6th year students on six mornings over the Easter holidays.
Forthcoming events
- Mock interviews will be held in the school for all Transition Year students on Monday, 12 March from 19.00 to 21.00. The school is most grateful to the organising teachers, Ms. Kelly and Ms. Foley, and to the almost forty volunteer interviewers who give so freely of their time.
- The Irish Department in the school will organise a number of events next week to mark Seachtain na Gaeilge.
- The final parent-teacher meeting of the current school year will take place in respect of 2nd year students next Wednesday from 16.15 to 18.45.
- Mr. O’ Shea and Sr. Helen (Chairperson, Board of Management) will attend a meeting in Tullamore next Wednesday in connection with the ongoing situation regarding the move to our new school building. A letter to families will be issued next week detailing the outcome of this meeting.
- Staff training in new child protection procedures will take place over the coming weeks with no disruption to class contact time. Therefore, school will proceed as normal on Friday, 16 March until 15.25, thereby revoking the earlier communication that was issued to families.
- McGinnity’s 2.1 CSPE class are looking forward to their visit to the new Wexford Garda station and courthouse next Thursday. Hopefully, they might get to see their new school again in the not- too- distant future!
