Leinster Senior A Soccer
Heartbreak for Loreto Wexford. St. Leo’s Carlow defeated Loreto Wexford 3-1 on Wednesday in the Senior Schoolgirls Division 1 Leinster Final played at Ajax Athletic.
An end to end battle in the first half with Loreto Wexford arguably having the better chances. It was St Leo’s that took the lead after 17 minutes but not long later Loreto got a deserved equaliser as Polly Redmond headed home from a Keisha Doyle cross. 1-1 at halftime with all to play for.
The turning point in the game came within the opening five minutes of the second half. Keeva Molony broke forward and won a penalty for Loreto but a fantastic diving save by the St Leo’s goalkeeper help change the game for St. Leo’s . Two goals within quick succession for St Leo’s turned the game on its head and St. Leo’s did well to close out the game from then on.
Congratulations to St Leo’s and commiserations to our girls. A fantastic achievement to get to the Division 1 Leinster Final and they can be proud of their performances throughout the year.

World First: Teachers Phone In Victory Against Sixth Years in Annual Rounders Rout
In scenes never before witnessed in the history of competitive rounders (or indeed sport itself), the teachers extended their ludicrously unbroken winning streak to 83 consecutive victories in the annual Teachers vs. Sixth Years Rounders Match — this year played in the sun-drenched Tom Gunning Memorial Ballpark Arena.
But this wasn’t just another rout. This was historic. Because on Wednesday, the teachers didn’t just win — they phoned it in. Literally.
As the sixth years bounced onto the pitch, eyes shining with youthful optimism and dreams of glory, the teachers remained perched in the staffroom, sipping caramel-flavoured cappuccinos they quickly realised that the students would, once again, prove no match for the supreme athletes and gifted rounders players that the teachers are. They knew, that the students were, once again, lambs to the pedagogical slaughter.
With a casual glance out the window, Ms. Tracy Brown, one mouthful into her frothy latte, quipped: “Maybe we should just phone in the win this year.”
Without missing a beat — or a nibble of her Dubai Chocolate Pistachio — Ms. Anna Culleton summoned her iPhone 16 Pro Max Ultra with Espresso AI and instructed Siri to “call the match.” And so, the game began — with the phone passed teacher to teacher, home run after home run scored via Bluetooth and sheer sporting superiority.
Try as they might, the students were helpless. Five minutes in, the score read an eye-watering 42–0, and tears glistened in youthful eyes as dreams of rounders glory dissolved like a forgotten homework sheet in a puddle of rain.
Due to the traumatic nature of the events that followed, the rest of the match report has been redacted to protect the dignity of all involved. Instead, please enjoy these facts from Rounders History:
1. Did you know that in June 1963 President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, visited Loreto Wexford to present a new trophy, The Paudge Brennen Perpetual Cup, which has been presented to the winning captain ever since.
2. The first live broadcast of the match aired on June 2nd, 1960, mere hours after RTÉ launched, with Michael O’Hehir commentating in a mixture of Irish, Latin and raw emotion.
3. The first colour broadcast came in 1971 when Al Jazeera and CNN both carried the game live and brought it to a global audience.
4. Did you know that the 2003 encounter directly led to the building of our new school? Just a year after the Saipan Civil War broke out across Ireland tensions were still high between McCarthyites and Keaneites. As Alan Murphy celebrated his home run, he fist-pumped towards the students shouting “fail to prepare, prepare to fail”. Immediately, he was struck across the head by a flying bacon slicer by a disgruntled Mick McCarthy supporter. Riots and running battles between the two sides resulted in three days of violences which left the school building on Spawell Road in awful condition and it was immediately decided to build a new school on Pembroke Hill.
5. The 2009 encounter saw another world first as, after striking the ball perfectly, Elaine Mullen moonwalked around the course for her second home run of the after

Athletes
It was another successful day for our athletes in Tullamore. Maria Coone secured first place in the 3000m walk, while Niamh Sherlock achieved second place in the Minor Shot Putt. Both athletes have qualified for the All-Ireland Championships taking place at the end of May.

1st Year Emerald Park Trip
Our first-year students had an exceptional day at Emerald Park, marking the end of their year with a memorable summer tour. A total of 164 first-year students, accompanied by their dedicated Meitheal Leaders, embraced the day, enjoying the sunshine, exploring the zoo, and experiencing the thrills of the roller coasters. This outing provided a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate their successful completion of their first year of secondary school, creating lasting memories with their friends. It was a fitting celebration of the journey they have undertaken since beginning their secondary school life.
