Children of Lir Concert – 3 and 4 February

The 2nd year Choir will be taking part in the upcoming Children of Lir Concert in the National Opera House on 3 and 4 February. The choir, directed by Ms. Angela Walton, have been rehearsing for this event since last September. This Celtic Opera, composed by Brian O Reilly, with music by Loudest Whisper and narrated by Sharon Clancy,  promises to be a great show. With over 100 voices on stage, the Loreto Choir will be joined by Selskar College and the Wexford Male Voice Choir.

Four Loreto students from the Wexford School of Ballet will be dancing as the swans in this Celtic tale. They are: Sorcha Finn, Hannah Scully, Holly Johnston and Carla Fusciardi-Wallace.

Tickets can purchased online from the National Opera House website.

Visit by Sr. Carmel

Our former Deputy Principal, Sr. Carmel, paid a very welcome visit to the school on Thursday, 26 January to meet all staff and to address the student body on the work being done in Loreto Secondary School, Rumbek, Southern Sudan.

Sr. Carmel, who now works with the Loreto Province in Dublin, was very warmly greeted by all on her first visit to the school since resigning last summer.

Subject choice talks

The school wishes to thank the very high numbers of 1st and 4th year parents who attended subject choice talks for their daughters in the school last Monday night. Special thanks are also extended to our guidance counsellors, Ms. Catríona Foley and Ms. Lorraine Kelly, for their superb presentations at these talks.

Leinster A Senior Camogie final

Hard luck to our senior camogie panel and management for narrowly missing out on a Leinster title last Saturday when pipped at the post by Loreto, Kilkenny. Every single player did her best and it is hoped that the team will come bouncing back next year enriched by the experience of this year’s very successful campaign. Special thanks are extended to teachers Mr. David Crowdle and Ms. Tracy Browne for all their work in bringing the team so far.

New school building

Please be sure to look at the fantastic pictures on our home page that show the considerable progress being made on the building of our new school. All parts of the building are now “out of the ground” and the building is very visible from the road and Pembroke Hill roundabout. We hope to be in the new school by the end of November this year.
