We All Learn Differently – report by Ms. M. Jordan
We have been raising awareness around the idea that ‘We All Learn Differently’ over the last few days in school and in the run up to State and house exams. It is important to remember that we all have our own learning styles and education can never really be ‘one size fits all’. As part of this campaign 5th year Learning Support students researched positive images for our school screens.
Below is a selection of their work:
The girls were particularly taken with the poem written by a student with dyslexia that went viral this year. On first reading she appears to have low self-worth but on second reading and by reading the lines backwards she shows off her confidence, wit and intelligence perfectly while also demonstrating how people with dyslexia see things differently.
Past pupil Jordie Sheridan visited the school on Monday to speak to 5th and 6th year Learning Support students about how she has learned more about her learning style and her dyslexia over the years. Jordie has completed her PLC in Psychology and will pursue her studies further next year. She spoke about being a visual learner, mind-maps and the benefits of completing a PLC before moving on to a degree course. The students felt very motivated and positive after Jordie’s talk.
Many thanks to the 1st year Learning Support students, our SNA Marianne and Aoife Corbett in TY for putting together a lovely display in the GP area to promote this important message.

Details of the calendar, book lists and Free Books Scheme for 2019/2020 will be posted on our website on and from Friday, 24 May.
Annual Prizegiving will be held in the school on Monday, 20 May.
A number of events will be held over the coming week to mark the departure from school of our 6th year students, as follows:
- It is our hope that the 6th year students will draw both comfort and strength from their Retreat in Glendalough from Tuesday lunchtime to Wednesday evening, 21 and 22 May. We thank the teachers in the Religious Education Department for organising this event.
- We look forward to hosting breakfast for the 6th year students in the school on Thursday morning, 23 May at 9.15.
- It is our pleasure to invite 6th year parents/guardians to join the staff and students at the Leaving Certificate Graduation Ceremony that will be held in Clonard Church under the direction of our Religious Education Department and Chaplain, Fr. Jim Fegan, on Thursday, 23 May at 7.00 p.m. This will be followed by a Reception in the Talbot Hotel.
