Loreto Wexford Equestrian Team 2021

Loreto, Wexford have had a very successful run to date in the TRI Equestrian Interschools Show Jumping League. The league will host over 20 dates across the country for the 2021/2022 season, culminating in the league final in April. Loreto Wexford has fielded between 1 and 4 teams at the legs so far with wins and multiple placings at 8 out of the 9 venues. The current standings have Loreto Wexford at the top of the leader board but other teams are close on their tails.

The girl’s dedication and comradery has been admirable, and they have gained valuable experience travelling the countryside to a wide range of equestrian venues. Win or lose, the girls represent the school with dignity and respect and they are to be highly commended on their performance to date. Thank you to the parents who are the strong support and backbone that contribute to the girl’s success.

Thank you to coordinating teachers, Ms. Martin and Mr. Grace for overseeing the teams. Any student wishing to participate in the new year can speak to them directly.

Lastly, a very special thank you to Killeens Equestrian Store and Ballintober Equestrian for their very generous sponsorship of 16 new embroidered saddle cloths for the school. It is very much appreciated by all involved.

The girls currently representing the school are Lilly Mai Berry, Ailbhe Cleary, Edie Codd, Sarah Cousins, Aoife Crean, Kiera Crowther, Ashley Durack, Cora Finn, Amy Griffith, Ava Murphy, Caoimhe Murphy, Faye Murphy, Jessica Murphy, Jolie Molloy, Darcey O’Connor, Katie O’Connor, Kate O’Leary, Isabel Walsh and Katie Walsh.

Congratulations and well done to all.

Irish Second-Level Students’ Union

On 11 November 2021, 5th year student Aoibhín Ní Gleasáin was elected to be Wexford’s Regional Officer of the Irish Second-Level Students’ Union (ISSU). Aoibhín was elected at Wexford’s Regional Council by delegates from all member schools of the union.

The Irish Second-Level Students’ Union is the national representative body for second-level student councils, with over 500 schools affiliated to the union nationally. Since the onset of COVID-19 and its impact on the education system, the ISSU has sat on an Advisory Group of the Department of Education & Skills, representing students and cooperating with other stakeholders on issues such as the Junior Cert, schools reopening and the 2020 and 2021 editions of the Leaving Cert.

Aoibhín officially began her role on 1 January 2022 and will be working closely with her Co-Officer Gráinne Ní Ailín from Meánscoil Gharman in pursuing and implementing projects within Wexford and further spreading the work of the ISSU.

The school warmly congratulates Aoibhín on her success in being elected and wishes her all the best for her term of office.
