Silver Gaisce Trip to Carne – report by Alanna Fusciardi Wallace (6th year)

On Wednesday, 18 September a group of six 6th year students (Liadh Dwyer, Ruth Hendrick, Emer O’Rourke, Ciara Banville, Sally Bruen and Alanna Fusciardi Wallace) embarked on completing their Silver Gaisce, having achieved their Bronze Gaisce in Transition Year.

The girls had to complete 26 weeks of a community involvement, a new skill and a physical activity respectively. As the final aspect of the award, the girls had to complete a 50km walk over 3 days and 2 nights, while cooking all their own meals. The walk was divided into 8km on Wednesday evening, 30km on Thursday and 12km on Friday morning.

The girls would like to give a special shout out to Sally’s dog Charlie and Ruth’s dog Minnie who were great companions on the walk.

Overall an amazing experience was had and the sense of achievement the girls feel is unrivalled. They would like to thank all the teachers and parents who helped to make this event possible, especially Pat Bruen and Eileen Hendrick for their help with the walks.
