Inclusion Committee Report by Emma Daly & Elena Ebner (Secretaries)

The Inclusion committee gathered on Wednesday, 5th of October, for their first meeting of the year. Firstly, the committee elected Emma Daly & Elena Ebner as secretaries to the committee. Thirty-eight new and old members were welcomed, including students and teachers.

We discussed and put together a list of events that we will organise throughout the year;

  • November – LGBT Stand Up Awareness Week
  • February – Multicultural Week & World Hijab Day
  • March – Down Syndrome Awareness

Members of the group can pick a topic of their choice that they feel passionate about for the final term.
Interviews with Ms. M. Jordan will be held during the school year where students can share their stories or issues they have dealt with or are passionate about. These will be shared with the school community through the school newsletter. The first interview will be with Sophie & Katie Ennis who will discuss why they want to raise Down Syndrome Awareness in our school.

GOAL Jersey Day

Thanks to all who contributed to GOAL Jersey Day. As a school, we raised over €900 for this very worthwhile cause. Well done to all students and to Mr. Broderick for coordinating the event.

Paired Reading and Board Games Club

Over 50 volunteer Transition Year students have been trained as Paired Reading tutors this week. They will put their training to use over the coming weeks by reading together with first year student. This will help them to develop their reading skills.

A further group of TY volunteers have also committed to running a Board Games Club at lunchtime. This club will provide a quiet space for junior cycle students and give them an opportunity to make new friends whilst developing new skills. Well done to all for putting their names forward and to Ms. M. Jordan and Ms. Wilson for overseeing both initiatives.

CAO Talk

On Tuesday, 11 October, Ms. Foley welcomed parents of Leaving Certificate pupils to the school for a talk about the CAO process and the options open to students after their time in Loreto is finished.
