John Paul 11 Award Ceremony – report by Ms. L. Jordan

On Friday, 9 October, 17 students received awards for their work last year as part of the John Paul II Committee. Ms. L. Jordan (John Paul II Facilitator) and Colette O’ Doherty (Ferns Diocesan Advisor) presented the girls with their awards.

The Pope John Paul II Award is a faith achievement award for young people between the age of 16 and 18. The Award enables participants to take an active part in the life of their Church and in the life of their community and society. These students have volunteered in their local parishes and communities in many different ways such as walking the elderly to mass, fundraising for different charities, reading/singing at mass and taking active roles on committees such as the Green School Committee and Paired Reading Committee.

Nadine Goodison and Grace Rossiter achieved a Papal Cross Award for their project which was linked to the charity ‘Mary’s Meals’ and also for work in their local communities.

Congratulations to all of the students involved and best of luck to the 4th years and 5th years who are joining the group this year.
