Soccer Update – report by Nicole Lageu (TY)
On Monday, the 15th of January, our second-year soccer team played against Presentation Wexford in their second group match in the league.
The match got off to a slow start for both sides, but as the first half progressed, the pace picked up. There was a close call from a Presentation player, but ultimately, it ended up wide. We witnessed a great display of defending from Loreto’s goalkeeper, Natasha Rawson, and defenders Holly Quill and Aoibheann Clarke. Presentation took a run for it, leading to a goal, marking a disappointing start to the match. However, with 5 minutes left, a fantastic performance from Emma McEldowney resulted in an impressive goal, bringing the score level as the first half concluded.
The second half commenced with a strong start from Loreto, featuring many close shots on goal. However, Loreto faced the challenge of getting the ball past Presentation’s goalkeeper. Both teams displayed great determination and battled fiercely throughout the second half. As the end of the second half approached, a goal from Presentation concluded the match with a final score of 2-1.
It was a disappointing result for our Loreto side, but we anticipate a better outcome in their upcoming match against Adamstown and wish them all the best.
