Paired Reading – report by Ms. M. Jordan

We had yet another successful and enjoyable experience with Paired Reading this year. 1st year students completed the Paired Reading Programme on Tuesday, 10 December. All the girls involved (both TY students  and 1st years) were very generous with their time, giving up twenty minutes of their lunch time four days per week since October in order to develop a love of reading.

Here are some of the 1st  years’ thoughts on the ‘reading club’:

  • ‘I now read more often and I am only a bit nervous about reading in front of the class’
  • ‘I am more confident reading in public’
  • ‘I really enjoyed taking part, it was super helpful’
  • ‘I loved taking part because my tutor was so nice’

TY students immensely enjoyed working with and helping the 1st  years also saying it was good to mix with a different year group and form new friendships and they felt good helping others.

Some 1st  years and TYs will be continuing their reading in the New Year and if anybody would like to continue Paired Reading or even join up please let Ms. M. Jordan know.

At the end of the programme, we all had a Christmas party where we had sweet treats and played Christmas music. Well done to all involved!

Kick Boxing Success

Congratulations to Mia Byrne, TY Student, who travelled to New York recently to complete in the WKKC World Championships.  Mia had to fight many competitors from countries such as England, USA, Canada and Guatemala.  After an amazing performance in the final Mia was crowned U18 World Kickboxing Champion. What a wonderful achievement!
