Football

A big well done to our under-14 footballers who had a great win on Monday in the third round of their Leinster championship against Coláiste Bríde Enniscorthy. That now makes it three wins from three at the end of our group stage which means the girls advance to the knock-out stages. The team welcomed seven-time All-Ireland winner Eoghan O’Gara to Loreto for a training session. The girls loved it—great prep for their First-Year final & U14 Leinster knockouts. Huge thanks to Eoghan for his time, much appreciated by all!

A huge well done to our First-Year football team who have qualified for the final of the Wexford LGFA Post-Primary Schools First-Year Competition Final. The girls had a big win in last Fridays semi-final versus Presentation Wexford and now advance to the final vs FCJ Bunclody.

Camogie

A big well done to our under-14 camogie team that had a good win in the third round of their Leinster championship against Coláiste Bríde, Carnew. This win means that the girls progress to a Leinster semi-final. Well done to all involved!

Soccer

Loreto Wexford beat St Kilians DS in the Division 1 South Leinster Final yesterday.

St Kilians took the lead inside the first 20 minutes of the match but Loreto Wexford battled back and drew level as Alexa Clancy fired a shot into the top corner. However St Kilians quickly responded with another breakaway goal to give them a 2 – 1 lead at half time.

Loreto picked up the pace in the second and equalised within the first 5 minutes of the second half.  Emma McEldowney relentlessly drove down the wing and fired a shot off the post.  But Mia Denton was there to pounce on the rebound and expertly finish it to the corner.

In the last 20 minutes Loreto deservedly took the lead from a Mia Denton corner as Polly Redmond powered a header home.

The tension rose in the last 20 minutes of the game. Keeva Molony was unlucky to give Loreto some breathing room as she headed the ball off the crossbar from another Mia Denton corner. St Kilians piled on the pressure but Loreto’s defence stood firm and deservedly took the win.

Outstanding achievement in the Top Division of Schoolgirls Soccer. Leinster Semi Final next up for our Senior Soccer Team

Job Fest 2025

Yesterday, interested senior students headed to the Talbot Hotel for Jobs Fest! They mingled with local employers, explored apprenticeship programs, and discovered various training opportunities. This event opened their minds to alternative career paths and opportunities.

Mock Interviews

On Wednesday we hosted our annual mock interviews for Transition Year students. Thank you to our volunteers for their time and support. The sessions were invaluable and students found them very useful. Special thanks to Ms. Foley for organising this event.

First Year home Economics

Our talented 1st-year students recently showcased their baking skills by preparing delicious scones, Swiss rolls, and brownies. A fantastic effort from everyone involved—well done!

Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month

March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, and TY student Lauryn Tracy is visiting classes to share her experience. On Wednesday Lauryn inspired 1st-year SPHE students with her optimism and positivity. Read her Diverse Voices interview on the Loreto app!

Diverse Voices

An important job of the Inclusion Committee is to give everyone a voice. Sometimes we might unintentionally overlook the voices of those from a minority group and miss a valuable chance to learn more about our wonderfully diverse school community. In this new regular feature, we hope to share the interesting stories of students from diverse backgrounds.

Name: Lauryn Tracy

Age: 16

Year: TY, 4.4

Home: Oulart

Favourite Food: Chicken curry

Favourite TV Show: 911

Favourite Subject & Hobby:

Art, especially painting and sketching

My last artistic piece was a sketch of a character from Cobra Kai

What I Like about School:

My favourite things about school are how welcoming everybody is and Glenda’s sausage rolls! It is hard to get around in my wheelchair because there are so many students, so I am very grateful for the lift.  However, it is frustrating when people use the lift when they don’t really need to use it / they don’t have a lift pass. This makes me late for class sometimes. I would love to use the stairs if I could, but I can’t.

My Experience of Cerebral Palsy (CP):

CP impacts movement and co-ordination. It is a condition that is caused by a problem with the brain that develops in the younger stages of life.  It is not a learning disability; it is a physical disability. People see CP as a big problem, but I see it as just a different outlook on life. We all have obstacles we must overcome, and CP is just one of those obstacles for me. It doesn’t define me. The one good thing about CP is that I get to skip the queues! I don’t have to pay extra for a fast pass in Universal Studios.

My Message about CP Awareness Month: March is CP Awareness Month. I think it’s important that we talk about CP. There are many stigmas around it. There are many different levels of CP. Generally, people imagine the worst-case scenario particularly in the media. I think everyone needs to understand that people with CP are individuals with our own unique personality. We each have different strengths and needs.

In the coming weeks, I’m delivering talks around the school to try address the stigma around my condition and hopefully ensure that the school will always be a welcoming place for people with disabilities.

My Future Plans: I hope to be a film director. I would like to make films about ordinary people. I want to give regular people a voice. Films sometimes present the worst-case scenario. Films that cast people with disabilities often focus on the disability rather than the person. I would like to make films where people with differences are included not because of those differences but because that is a true reflection of our society. Society is made up of people with differences and I want to reflect that in the film industry.

I made it to the regional stages of the Young Filmmakers competition by Fresh Films with my lyrics video entitled ‘Pretty Isn’t Pretty’. I also did a 5-minute segment with Beat 102 103 radio station back in October as part of my TY work experience. This March, I acted as MC for the Multicultural Fashion Show in my school, and I will act as MC again for the Junk Kouture Fashion Show on the 8th of April here in school, so I feel I am already well on the path to pursuing my career in media.

My Final Message: See people with disabilities as people, don’t just see their disability

School Library

The library will be collecting book donations on Wednesday, April 2nd. We are particularly interested in works by Agatha Christie, poetry by Ted Hughes & Sylvia Plath, contemporary books exploring themes of romance, LGBTQ+ experiences, diverse cultures, & popular Book Tok titles.

A lovely donation of some new books yesterday from a student. Feel free to pop down to Ms. Browne’s classroom when you are passing to take a book or leave a book! No permission needed!

TY Circus Workshop

Our TY students had an amazing time at Konor’s Circus Skills Workshop! From juggling and diabolo to plate spinning and balloon making, they learned new tricks and had a blast. It was such a hit—we’ve already booked for next year!

Donation Nation

Recently 2.5 hosted a successful clothing drive called ‘Donation Nation’ to raise money for UNICEF. We also donated clothes to St Vincent de Paul in Wexford. Well done to all involved.

On Monday we welcomed Dympna O’Farrell to the school where she held a workshop on line dancing with the Transition Years. The students had a great time and are keen to continue line dancing into the future.
