Spanish students prepare to depart
Loreto will bid farewell next Wednesday to six Spanish students who have been studying in the school for the past six weeks – Carmen, Maria, Sandra, Angela, Sofia and Sandra.
The students attended classes in 2nd and 4th years during this period and were keen participants in a number of the school’s extra-curricular activities.
We wish the girls and their accompanying teachers a safe journey back to Spain.
Visit by Loreto Leadership
Two members of the Loreto Leadership Team, Sisters Brenda and Julie from the U.S.A., will visit the school next Wednesday afternoon and will have informal conversations with staff and students.
New School
It is now expected that the completion date for our new school will be Tuesday, 28 November 2017. We are presently discussing arrangements for the commencement of teaching in the new building. A letter setting out these arrangements will be issued to all families in the coming weeks.

The school places on record its appreciation of the voluntary work done by Ms. O’ Reilly (Deputy Principal), teachers and students in arranging a number of lunchtime activities in the school, as follows:

Ladies Football
It is great to see that 96 of our 1st year students are involved in a lunchtime football league that is organised by teachers and 20 Transition Year students.
Match report of the Junior A Leinster schools football match between Loreto and Portlaoise.

The under 16 A football team were out in their first match against a strong Portlaoise side on Wednesday, 4 October in Carlow. A slow start didn’t help Loreto as Portlaoise got on top with a few early scores from their speedy corner forward. Aoife O’Connor and substitute Katie Kehoe were battling hard in the last line of defence with the help of the other Loreto backs. Loreto soon found the net when Kathlynn Gabbett Kehoe found herself on the end of a ball from the determined Sophie Boxwell, soon followed by a point by Liadh Dwyer, but Loreto were trailing 3-04 to 1-01 at the interval.
Wise words motivated Loreto and they came back fighting in the second half. Boxwell hit the net minutes in and soon after came a Mollie Bates’ finish. Michelle Cullen and Meave Hayes kept the ball moving through the middle of the field. Boxwell and Bates pointed again but Portlaoise kept the scoreboard ticking over and threatening the Loreto goal but goalie Kate O’ Reilly made some great saves. At the other end Boxwell rattled the net one last time but it wasn’t to be for Loreto Wexford as Portlaoise came out on top with a score line of 6-7 to 4-4.
Loreto are up against Colaiste Iosagáin in the next round.
