Report on under 14  Year Blitz in Ferns Centre of Excellence –  by Caitlin Nash and Ciara Banville (4th year)

On Friday, 23 February, nine schools throughout the county took part in an under 14 schools 1st  year football blitz in Ferns Centre of Excellence.

A great display of football was shown by all teams despite the freezing temperature. The first match from the three groups had a 10 am throw in and continued throughout the day.

Loreto A and Gorey A both qualified for the Group A final. This was a tough match for both teams. Gorey had the advantage of the wind in the first half and scored 1-3 in that time without reply from Loreto. Loreto showed great determination in the second half coming back to score 2-1. Gorey unfortunately stayed ahead, scoring 3 more points and a late goal to extend their victory to 5 points.

St.Marys Arklow and FCJ Bunclody reached the Group B Final with FCJ coming out on top in the end.

DÚSHLÁN 125 – Coinnigh beo í!

Tá comórtas náisiúnta nua tagtha ar an bhfód le cúpla bliain anuas. Comórtas é seo atá dírithe ar mhic léinn san ollscoil agus ar dhaltaí meánscoile araon d’fhonn iad a spreagadh chun an Ghaeilge a úsáid i mbealach spraíúil fuinniúil. ‘Dúshlán 125’ a thugtar ar an gcomórtas seo agus ainm ní b’oiriúnaí, ní fhéadfadh a bheith ann! Tugadh tríocha dúshlán do na foirne a ghlac páirt ann fud fad na tíre; deich gcinn a bhí indéanta go leor, deich gcinn a bhí beagáinín níos deacra agus deich gcinn a bhí fíordhúshlánach go deo. Anuas air sin, ní raibh ach 50 uair an chloig ag na hiomaitheoirí na dúshláin seo a dhéanamh. Is cinnte go raibh na cailíní faoi bhrú. Don 50 uair sin, b’eagarthóirí scannán iad, b’amhránaithe iad, ba scríbhneoirí iad, b’aisteoirí iad, ba mhúinteoirí iad agus ba mhór an dua a chaith siad uilig leis an rud ar fad. Ghlac neart daltaí ón scoil s’againne páirt ann agus bhíomar fíorbhródúil as foireann amháin a rug an bua leo ar deireadh. Tháinig Coinnigh Beo Í sa chéad áit sa tír agus bhuaigh Eve Hession, Aisling Gouldson agus Sadhbh Cullinane dearbhán €500 One for All an duine! Chomh maith leis sin, tá siad ar an gcéad ghrúpa riamh a bhuaigh an comórtas seo nach scoil lán-Ghaeilge í. Comhghairdeas ó chroí libh, a chailíní! LORETO ABÚ!!
