Rotary Success – report by Lara O’ Shea, 5th year student

On Monday, 12 November, Alanna Fusciardi Wallace, who had been selected from 5th year to represent Loreto Wexford, attended the club round of the Rotary Youth Leadership Development Programme. This programme was launched to encourage young people to take on leadership roles in their community and to become more involved.

To get to this stage Alanna had to go through an interview process in the school and was then selected to take part in another interview on the Monday morning. She was competing against fourteen students from other schools in Wexford and we are delighted to announce that Alanna won the club round and will be representing Loreto Secondary School and Wexford as she moves on to the next round. If she wins, herself and two others will take part in a number of amazing trips that will encourage her to continue acting as the amazing leader that she is. These including visiting Dáil Éireann, Stormont Castle and even the Eurupean Parliament in Strasbourg.

All of us at Loreto are very proud of Alanna and we wish her the very best of luck with the next round of the competition.

Athletics update

Many Loreto students were very active in recent months on the athletics front. We are grateful to Senan O’ Reilly (parent) and Ms. Mullen who have provided details of the girls’ achievements. Carne Trip – report by Abaigh Martin, 4th year student

On 10 October, half of 4th year went to Carne’s St. Vincent de Paul centre for an overnight team-building trip. We made our own dinner on Wednesday evening and then went to the centre’s sitting room to chill out and then had a mini disco before heading up to our shared rooms.

We made our breakfast the next morning and waited for the second half of 4th year to arrive. After they had chosen their rooms, we all split into our class groups for team games. We played ball games, did yoga and made sand mandalas on the beach. The highlight of the day was our class anthems which we had to compose and perform in front of the whole year group.  In the afternoon the first group went back to the school to be collected by parents while the second group got ready for dinner. After dinner they went to the sitting room and bonded while listening to music until they had to go back to their rooms. They had the added excitement of the electricity going during the night due to a storm.  They packed their bags the next morning and came back to the school after breakfast.

The whole trip was a great success and we all felt as if we had become much closer with our classmates. We were very thankful to the teaching staff who accompanied us on the trip and played games with us during the three-day trip.
