Day two of the Spanish trip to Barcelona was packed with excitement, starting with a visit to Montserrat followed by a trip to the CosmoCaixa Science Museum. The day wrapped up with a fun game of bowling at Diverland.

On day three of the Spanish trip to Barcelona, students visited the PortAventura theme park, where they and the staff enjoyed exhilarating rides and exciting shows.

Well done to the equestrian teams in Barnadown at the weekend. First and second in the novice teams and second in the open teams. Also, well done to Caitlin who came second in the 90cm individual and to Hannah Rose who won the 1m and 1.10m individuals.

Our junior football team had a big win on Tuesday over local rivals Presentation Wexford in the final group game of their Leinster Championship.

The girls won by a comprehensive margin and kicked some excellent scores on the way to doing so.

We now wait to see if two wins from three games is enough to progress from our group to the knockout stages of the competition.

Well done girls!

Members of the Inclusion Committee were delighted to have the opportunity to attend ‘The Inside Story 2025’ webinar on Tuesday organised by Schools of Sanctuary. Students from across Ireland heard stories from Sanctuary Ambassadors from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria and Gaza allowing them to understand from first-hand accounts the immense challenges facing people from war-torn countries. Students also heard from Divine Luke-Letlhake, head girl in St Mary’s College, Arklow. Divine spoke about her identity which spans across three cultures- Ireland the country of her birth, South Africa her mother’s birthplace and Nigeria where her father was born.

Well done to our Senior Camogie team on a great win over Mercy New Ross on Wednesday. It was tight, hard-fought match but the girls showed great determination and came away with the victory.

Two wins from two in the group stages means the team is through to the next stage of the competition. Well done everyone!

On Wednesday we held our annual dress-up day in aid of Children’s Health Ireland hospitals, which support sick children all around Ireland. Even though 250 students were away, we still managed to raise €650, which will be donated to this cause. Thank you to everyone who donated and took part in the event. Here are a few of the costumes that caught our eye.

On Wednesday, 22nd October, we had the amazing opportunity to attend the Shona Shine Festival. The day began with activities and a lively welcome from hosts Shonagh Lyons and Megan O’Regan-Byrne from Beat 102-103. Their energy set the tone for an exciting and empowering day ahead.

The festival featured an incredible line-up of speakers covering a wide range of topics. Tammy Darcy, the founder of The Shona Project, started things off by sharing her story and encouraging everyone to embrace confidence and kindness. We also heard from Anna McGann and Beth Buttimer on the importance of women in sport, followed by a calming meditation session with Mary Bradley.

Throughout the morning, we were inspired by speakers like Fionnuala Moran, who spoke about sustainability, and the Change-makers Panel featuring Destiny Ayo Vaughan, Mary Hayes, and Katie Joubert, who discussed leadership and making positive change. Sarah Corbett Lynch spoke about developing a strong mindset, and Tara Rafter shared insights on mental health. Before lunch, Laura Dowling, known as The Fabulous Pharmacist, gave valuable advice on women’s health.

After lunch, there was time to explore activities before diving back into more sessions. A “Moment to Chat” encouraged us to check in on how we are all doing, followed by Amanda Ade’s talk on being an ally. Dancer Danspire got everyone moving with a high-energy session called “Let’s Bust Some Moves!” Later, Yemi Adenuga, a councillor and TV personality, inspired the audience with her empowering story about confidence and ambition.

The day ended with a sing-along social and dance party, where everyone joined in to celebrate an incredible day of positivity and empowerment.

Overall, the Shine Festival was a fantastic experience that reminded us to support each other, look after our mental health, and always believe in ourselves.
