South East Radio Tour
A huge thank you to everyone at South East Radio for providing our students with such a fantastic experience. The girls had the incredible opportunity to go live on air and gained a real insight into what happens behind the scenes, while also meeting so many inspiring people along the way.
We would especially like to extend our sincere thanks to Mary Anne for the wonderful tour, and to the entire South East Radio team for their kindness, warmth, and support throughout the visit.
It was a truly memorable day for all involved!

Le Chéile Graduation
Last week we said goodbye to this years Le Chéile participants. Attendees were presented with certificates and shared some wonderful stories of how much they have learned over the course of the year. Thank you also to Ms Kennedy and all the TY volunteers who made the programme such a success.

Multiculturalism in the Classroom:
Our classroom initiative this year focused on teaching 1st year students about the Indian culture and the South African culture. 6th year students Isha Amodu (South Africa) and 3rd year student Avril Allwin (India) delivered lessons explaining the history, heritage and traditions of their cultures. Ms Byrne’s 1st year CSPE class also engaged in a pen pal exercise with students in Zambia.
TYs attended a Teams Talk with the Young Scientists from Bunclody College, who received a Display Award this year for their research on misinformation and disinformation in the media around immigration.
Immigration Workshops
Denis Whelan from Wexford Local Development carried out very informative immigration workshops with all TYs. The former Garda Superintendent has taken up a role as a Community Connection Project Worker, focusing on misinformation and disinformation around migrants. This tied in perfectly with our theme this year. Students engaged very well during walking debates and lively discussions as the importance of fact checking / knowing your sources was highlighted. Denis was joined by various School of Sanctuary Ambassadors who spoke at the end of his workshop about their home countries and the importance of diversity and respect.

Student School of Sanctuary Ambassadors
Our student School of Sanctuary Ambassadors are Haya Al Kasem, Isha Amodu and Yosra El Hussein. These 6th year students take on a leadership role in promoting the work of Schools of Sanctuary. They attended the immigration workshops and gave a great interview to Alan Corcoran on South East Radio where they talked about their own migrant stories and what Multicultural Week means to them. Next week they will visit Our Lady of Lourdes, New Ross to help students and staff there on their School of Sanctuary journey.
Multicultural Cafe:
This year, we were delighted to have our first pop-up Multicultural Cafe led by Ms C Culleton and Ms King and inspired by our colleagues in St. Mary’s Secondary School, New Ross. From Monday to Thursday, 1.20 -1.40 students were welcomed into Maths Room 1 to sample drinks and snacks from around the world. There was a wonderful atmosphere of camaraderie all week.

Whole-school Celebrations:
The school community enjoyed music from around the world as songs chosen by our volunteers were played over the intercom each evening at the end of the school day. There were also posters and flags displayed all over our GP Area so that students gathering there were immersed in the riot of colour and fascinating facts about cultures from around the world.

Multicultural Fashion Show & Fair:
As always, the highlight of our week was the Multicultural Fashion Show & Fair. Once again this year, we were delighted to welcome students from the Presentation Secondary School here in Wexford and students from St. Mary’s Secondary School in New Ross as well as proud parents to help us celebrate diversity. The day is always enjoyable for teachers, students and visitors alike with the vibrant photos below being the best method of conveying the joyful and celebratory atmosphere. (You can also check out this week’s ‘Wexford People’ for more photos from the event):

Multicultural Week is a key event on our school calendar, but it is important to note that celebrating diversity goes to the heart of our school ethos all year long. As a school community, we are committed to ensuring all students feel valued and respected. This week of celebrations is just one of many ways to ensure this. If you would like to join the Inclusion Committee and share your ideas, new members are always welcome.
Wexford town -guided tour
Yesterday, our TY students had a fantastic day exploring Wexford town on a guided walking tour. They discovered and learned about local historical landmarks and enjoyed a fascinating visit to Selskar Abbey. A great opportunity to bring local history to life, all tied in with Wexford Week!

Camogie
Hard luck to our under-14 camogie team, who came up against a strong Loreto Kilkenny side yesterday. It was a tight, hard-fought contest, with the teams level for long periods of the match. The girls delivered a fantastic performance and should be very proud of their efforts.
Now all focus turns to the next match after the Easter break!

Home Economics
Our second year students had great fun in Home Economics Wednesday morning making Dubai chocolate brownies. Well done to all, they looked delicious.
Also check out these fantastic dishes prepared by our third year students for their Junior Cycle Home Economics mock practicals

School of Sanctuary Ambassadors
Well done to our School of Sanctuary Ambassadors Yosra El Hussein and Haya Alkasem who travelled to Our Lady of Lourdes, New Ross yesterday to address staff and students. The girls spoke about their experiences in Syria, Lebanon and Ireland and explained how Schools of Sanctuary made a big difference in their lives, helping them to integrate and feel happy and welcome in school. They delivered excellent presentations and inspired students and staff of the school to embark on their own School of Sanctuary journey.

This morning our fifth year LCA students visited the WWETB campus in Wexford Town where they explored the range of PLC courses and apprenticeships on offer. The students met the wonderful staff and received a fantastic goodie bag as well as special treats in the canteen.
