LCA Lunch

The Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) programme was first introduced to Loreto in September 2023. Since then, the class have embraced their new curriculum, which includes weekly work experience. As part of their Hotel, Tourism and Catering module, the students hosted a special lunch for their parents/guardians and some of the teaching staff. As you can see from the pictures, they did a superb job! Well done to all.

6th Year Wellbeing Day

We thank 6th Year students for their participation and engagement with our annual Wellbeing Day. This day aims to give students some tips and strategies to deal with the stress of life as a senior student. It is also designed to be a fun day where the group can forget about their studies for a while! Thanks to all teaching staff who facilitated the day. They were joined by external contributors and the feedback was superb.

Rotary Interact Club – First Project (report by Catherine O’Reilly)

Rotary Wexford’s new Interact club in Loreto Wexford has started their first ever project this month. Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of service above self. Rotary clubs sponsor, mentors, and guide interactors as they carry out projects and develop leadership skills. Every year an Interact club has two projects to complete, one that promotes their school or community and one that promotes international understanding and development.

The Loreto Interact Club is only the fourth in the entire country and the first in Wexford. There are now eighteen student members, who work under the guidance of Wexford Rotarian, Michael Brand, Loreto teacher, Anna Culleton and student president, Lauryn Murphy. These young students have officially started their international project for this year. Their aim is to help the international Rotary goal of ending polio. The International Rotary Organisation has been working to end polio for more than 35 years. Polio is a paralysing disease that most commonly affects children under the age of five. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system and cause paralysis. Since their first ever project they have given more than 430 million children the polio vaccination. As of today, polio is only found in two countries around the world and if all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

Rotary Great Britain and Ireland use purple crocus flowers as an internationally recognised symbol of polio eradication. The Loreto Interact Club are selling crocus bulbs to raise money to help aid the fight of ending polio. They are selling two different types of bags, ten bulbs for €5 or 20 bulbs for €10. They will be selling these bags at different businesses around Wexford; for example Haven Pharmacy in Clonard, AIB bank, Dec’s Pets Ardcavan, Wexford Service Station and more. The crocus bulbs will also be available to purchase at the Wexford Schools’ Christmas Market, which is hosted by Loreto on Saturday, December 9th from 11am to 2pm. All the money raised will go to the Rotary Club’s fund dedicated to ending Polio.

Crocus bulbs need to be planted between September and December. Crocuses also need to be planted in moist and well-drained soil so make sure to plant them before the ice comes!

The girls in the Loreto Wexford Interact club are raising money for a great cause so make sure to pop into the shops above, and to the Wexford Schools’ Christmas Market and get your crocus bulbs.
