12 April 2024

Welcome Back:

We welcome all members of the school community back to school following the Easter break. We extend our congratulations to our Leaving Certificate class as they successfully completed their oral exams recently. In the coming weeks, many other projects will be completed at both junior and senior cycle. We wish all students and teachers well with this important work.

A letter to families has been posted online today. It is available to view here.

Rugby and Soccer Success:

Thursday, 11 April 2024 will long be remembered by the school community with two outstanding achievements registered. Firstly, in rugby, our senior team won the inaugural Leinster Schools Senior Cup with a 19 – 7 victory against Loreto College, Mullingar. After securing a replay before Easter, the team didn’t let this second opportunity slip. They dominated the game and ensured that the trophy would come to Wexford. We congratulate the team and their management, Ms. Dee and Mr. Crowdle, on this superb achievement. We also thank the vocal supporters for encouraging them throughout!

At the same time, our senior soccer team were in the process of securing the first ever soccer trophy for the school. Playing in the FAI Senior Regional Final, Loreto defeated Gaelcholáiste na Mara 8 – 2. This was an outstanding performance by all with Polly Redmond (3), Molly O’ Shea, Cliona Kearney, Hannah Kehoe, Layla Fenlon and Keeva Molony scoring the goals. We extend our thanks to Mr. Usher and Ms. Sweetman for mentoring the team.

First Year LGFA Final:

We wish our first-year football panel well as they take in FCJ Bunclody in the final of the Wexford LGFA post-primary competition. The match will take place in St. Patrick’s Park, Enniscorthy this Saturday at midday and entry for adults is €5. We encourage as many parents/guardians and students to come out and support this wonderful group. Finally, we extend our thanks to Mr. Broderick, Ms. N Kelly and Mr. E. Cummins for their work with the team.

Success for Florence Donohue (TY):

Florence Donoghue has been selected as a finalist in the Grainne O’Neill essay competition organised by the Law Society of Ireland. Florence has now been invited to attend the awards ceremony in the Presidents Hall, Law Society of Ireland with her parents on April 30th at 2:30.
