Autumn General Meeting of Parents/Guardians

92 parents attended the Autumn General Meeting held in the Sports Hall on Monday, 15 October.

The meeting consisted of the presentation by Mr. O’ Shea, Ms. O’ Reilly and Mr. McGinnity of the Board of Management’s annual report to parents in respect of the 2017/2018 school year.  This report can be accessed by pressing here.

Following this presentation, there was a very busy question and answer session during which many issues were discussed e.g. traffic management, lunch facilities, introduction of new subjects, costs of education and the use of the school by outside bodies.

The meeting paid generous tribute to all who had worked so hard to bring the school to its new premises.

In line with school policy, there will be another general meeting of parents in the Spring.

A busy week – report by Krishna Ramesh, Students’ Council PRO

To commemorate World Mental Health Day, which took place on 10 October, the Students’ Council organised some events this week. Even though we’re slowly settling back into the rhythm of things and midterm is fast approaching, it’s still a new school, new school year and we felt stress among students is fairly high.

We aimed to tackle this by holding Relaxation Stations in the morning and during lunch every day this week. To do this, the religion room was dedicated as a calm and quiet space away from the noise and commotion of classrooms, an area where students could relax or meditate. In addition to this, brief announcements were made every morning regarding the importance of students’ mental health.

On 17 October, six members of our Students’ Council, accompanied by Ms. O’ Reilly, attended a meeting of Loreto Students@ Councils from all over Ireland in The Clayton Hotel, Leopardstown, Dublin. The meeting included presentations from Student Liaison Teachers as well as Student Council members from our fellow Loreto schools and was highly beneficial overall. It outlined the fundamental roles of the Students’ Council and gave us many new ideas that we could implement in Loreto Wexford.

Sale of Equipment from Loreto Secondary School in Spawell Road – report by Mr. Mullen and Mr. Crowdle

We are teachers in Loreto Secondary School who have been tasked by the Board of Management with the sale of equipment from our old building in Spawell Road. The school was home to 750 students and over 50 staff right up until June 2018. There is a lot of school equipment in very good condition that is now surplus to our requirements in Pembroke Hill and it is now for sale.

We will be holding an open sale on Saturday, 27 October in  Spawell Road from 10.00 until 14.00 where everything that is available for sale will be on show and ready to take away. We have a stock of school desks, school chairs, projectors, noticeboards, office furniture, etc.

If you are interested in purchasing anything prior to the open sale, please contact us via email and we can arrange to meet you.
