Industrial action
As of today, members of the Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland (ASTI) have indicated that they will be on strike on Thursday, 27 October 2017 as they are in dispute at a national level with the Department of Education and Skills. Should this strike proceed, the school will be closed to students on the day in question.
A separate letter will be issued to families by the Board of Management in respect of this matter.
1st year retreats
Next Monday sees the completion of class retreats for all 1st year students in Ballyvaloo. Kindly organised by the school’s Religion department and chaplain, Fr. Jim Fegan, they have once again proven to be very beneficial for students as they settle into secondary school.
Paired Reading
Last week 47 TY volunteers trained to become Paired Reading tutors here in Loreto. The volunteers learned how they can help younger students foster a love of reading by simply reading together for enjoyment. 12 of the volunteers have been selected to read with 1st year students at lunchtimes from 1.45-2.05 p.m. Many of the other volunteers will put their training to good use outside of school. Hopefully the tutors will pass on their love of reading to the younger girls. Best of luck to all involved!
