New school
We are obviously very disappointed that it has not been possible for us to move into our new school this week. The delay has been caused by the collapse of the Carillion Company and the need to find a replacement company to manage the grounds and buildings over the next 25 years. Negotiations are continuing at the highest levels and we live in hope that the matter will be resolved in time for us to finally make the move after the February mid-term break.
School Exchanges
The first week in February will be busy for the students and staff who will travel on the French and German school exchanges to Rennes-Pacé and Villingen respectively. We wish safe passage to all and express gratitude to the organising teachers in the different schools.
Mock Examinations
240 students will take their Junior and Leaving Certificate mock examinations in the fortnight beginning Monday, 29 January 2018. We extend our best wishes to all involved.
New Subjects
The Board of Management is pleased to announce the introduction of three new subjects into 1st year, beginning in September 2018 – Technology, Technical Drawing and Spanish. This development has been made possible by the provision of specialist rooms in our new school building at Pembroke Hill.
Hockey Update – Senior A Cup
The girls travelled to Kilkenny College on 17 January for their semi final tie in the Leinster Senior A Schoolgirls Cup competition. Unfortunately, they were beaten well on the day by an extremely talented and experienced Kilkenny side. The girls showed good fight, doggedness and never gave up. Overall Kilkenny’s experience and fitness was a step beyond our girls this year. This is a very young squad with many transition years on the team, so no doubt the girls will be back better and stronger next year. The opportunity to train full time on the new astro turf pitch will also be a huge bonus going forward for the girls.
