The benefits of Paired Reading are:

  • Improved literacy levels result in a more positive experience of learning in all subjects on the curriculum.
  • It benefits both tutor and tutee, particularly in the area of self-esteem.
  • The programme will run until Christmas and we will finish with a Christmas party for all involved so plenty of fun to be had.
  • First year students are free to select their own reading material and change the material if it does not suit.
  • Paired Reading has been acknowledged worldwide as an effective literacy intervention programme. It aims to increase literacy levels in students.

Best of luck to all involved!

Trick or Treat for Sick Children

The school was a frightful place this week. On Monday, 24 October, our wonderfully creative TYs created their own scarecrows. They were then placed throughout the school campus, haunting staff and students alike.

On Friday, 28 October, our students dressed up for Halloween. They put a huge amount of effort into their costumes. All proceeds raised from the day will go towards sick children in Crumlin and other hospitals. Our thanks to Ms. Whelan and Ms. Kinsella for coordinating the event.

Brief Updates

  • Ms. Browne has spearheaded a campaign to gather sleeping bags for those who are homeless. We thank all students who donated.
  • At our inaugural photo exhibition, Sofy Unichenko displayed some fantastic images of Donbass, Kyev and Wexford. Her passion for photography shone through started at a young age and her passion really shines through these pictures.
  • Congratulations to our junior camogie team who defeated St. Mary’s, New Ross in the Leinster championship.
  • Our senior and junior basketball teams competed in their final match this week against Our Lady of Lourdes, New Ross. While result didn’t go our way, the effort was outstanding. It was an emotional day for our 6th years as they represented Loreto for the final time.
  • Don’t forget to connect with the school through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for daily updates on school activities.

As we complete the term, I take this opportunity to thank all staff and students for the tremendous work completed since the end of August. I wish all members of the Loreto community an enjoyable, restful and safe Halloween break.
