Céilí na h-Idirbhliana – alt scríofa ag Doireann agus Clare

Bhí an céilí ar siúl in ionad Naomh Iosaf ar an 10ú Feabhra 2016. Ba iad FCJ ó Bhun Clóidí, Coláiste Naomh Peadair, Coláiste Selskar, Coláiste Eamon Rís, Meánscoil na Toirbhirte agus Meánscoil Loreto Loch Garman na scoileanna a bhí ann.

Bhí bailiúchán ar siúl ar son “Cycle Against Suicide”. Bhailigh siad dhá euro ó gach duine. Ruth Ivers a d’eagraigh é ó CER Loch Garman.

Chaitheamar éadaí oráiste chun an carthanacht a chur in iúl. Is é an dath oráiste an dath a bhaineann le “Cycle against Suicide”.Chaith daoine t-léine,geansaí,scairfeanna agus smuidú oráiste agus is fíor a rá go raibh sé go hálainn.

Chomh maith leis sin rinneamar a lán rince gaelacha, mar shampla “Ballaí Luimní” ,” Droichead Átha Lúain”,agus “Ionsaí na hInse”.Bhí deochanna mar sú oráiste agus Ribena ar fáil ann. D’itheamar oráistí, úlla agus bananaí.

Bhí cúpla dalta ó Choláiste Naomh Peadair ag seinm sa bhanna ceoil. Roinnt de na huirlisí a bhí ann ná an fidil, an fheadóg mhór, an fheadóg stáin agus an clár niochain. Toisc go raibh Ionad Naomh Iosaef chomh mhór, ní raibh an córas fuaime thar mholadh beirte agus bhí macalla le cloisteáil ann. Seachas é sin, bhain gach duine an- taitneamh as an gcéilí. Cheapamar gur ócáid an – fhiúntach é i gclár na h-Idirbhliana.

1916 Centenary Celebrations

The school’s History Department has been very busy in recent weeks planning a number of events to mark the 1916 Centenary.

The first range of activities will take place over a 3 day period – 14/15/16 March 2016 and will include the showing of a school-produced film, art work, the singing of songs at breaktime, the reading of both the 1916 Proclamation and a 2016 school-inspired version, a poetry competition and a flag raising ceremony.

Other events planned for April include the highlighting of the role played by women in the 1916 Rising and the filling of a time capsule.

Women’s Week

The Justice and peace group will be celebrating World Women’s Day next week by holding Women’s Week in the school. We have lots of events planned:

1. We will be displaying quotes by prominent women on the information screens throughout the week

2. There will be a display in the foyer about four inspirational women: Malala Yousafzai, Emma Watson, Mary Robinson and Rosa Parks.

3. The intercom will be used to broadcast information about Women’s Day, and also for a school-wide competition.

4. Clues will be read out on different days about four different influential women.

5. On Friday, students can enter the competition with their answers.

The theme of Women’s Day in 2016 is “Pledge for Parity.” The Justice and Peace group are aiming to highlight the inequalities women face, while also celebrating the many achievements of women of the past and present.

Fresh Film Festival Report

On Thursday, 25 February a group of transition year photography students travelled to Dublin for the Leinster Heats of the Fresh Film Festival, for their short films ‘Bruised’ and ‘Reflection’. The screening took place at the ODEON Cinema in the Point Village. Students from schools all across Leinster gathered to see their own work displayed on the big screen. There was an incredible range of videos on show, from comedic shorts to stories packed with drama; each one, rewarded with applause.

We were proud to see our own works, which started off as projects in photography class, shown to a live audience at the film festival screening. We were also thrilled to see the vast talent of young Irish filmmakers.

Thank you to Ms.Curran and Ms.Fallon who brought us to the event.

You can watch both videos on the school YouTube channel: Loreto Wexford https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGukBbYsm7Yd-N9Lmi3evww
