Minor Camogie Semi-Final
An Epic Semi-Final Victory for Our Minor Camogie Team!
In one of the most thrilling matches you’re likely to witness, our Minor Camogie team edged out a determined Castlecomer Community School side in yesterday’s Leinster Semi-Final, hosted on our home pitch here at Loreto Wexford.
After sixty gripping minutes of end-to-end action, the teams were level, forcing extra time. Castlecomer pushed ahead by four early in the first period, but our girls showed outstanding resilience and character to claw their way back. With the clock ticking down, Anna Roche and Maria Gilbane stepped up with two crucial late points to seal a memorable victory by the narrowest of margins.
Final Score (after extra time):
Loreto Wexford: 4-12
Castlecomer CS: 5-8
We now play Callen in the Leinster Final. Well done to all players and coaches on an incredible performance!

Loreto Wexford Are Leinster Division One Final Bound
Loreto Wexford finished 4-1 winners against Loreto Navan in Greystones last Friday and are now through to the Leinster Final in the top tier of Senior School Girls Soccer — a performance worthy of Anfield applause.
Inspired by Liverpool’s twentieth League title, the opening goal came from Polly Redmond after the twentieth minute mark. Nicole Murphy, channelling her inner Virgil van Dijk, intercepted the ball out of defence with class. Polly was then set through down the wing and calmly chipped the keeper to open the scoring, reminiscent of a Mo Salah finish on a European night.
Soon after, Emma McEldowney found herself free on the edge of the box and, with great composure, scored a stunning goal that found the top of the net. Loreto Wexford deservedly took a two–nil lead into half time, controlling the game like Arne Slot’s Liverpool.
Polly Redmond again opened the scoring in the second half from a direct free kick, earned by Ciara Murphy who skilfully danced through midfield before being pulled down — shades of Diaz in full flight. Polly then sealed the win, and her hat-trick, with a spectacular strike from outside the box before racing over to the Kop, arms raised, shouting “Arne Slot entertained?”
Loreto Navan were awarded a penalty inside the last five minutes, but Loreto Wexford stayed solid and closed out the win like true champions.
A fantastic team performance — full of passion, intensity, and moments of brilliance. Well done to all involved. The final awaits — You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Aoife Daly Cup
On Christmas Eve 2012, the Loreto Wexford community was deeply saddened by the sudden death of beloved Transition Year student Aoife Daly. Aoife was a vibrant, sports-loving young woman whose passion for rugby, hockey and camogie was evident to all who knew her.
Each year, to honour Aoife’s memory, Transition Year students from Loreto Wexford and St. Peter’s come together for the Aoife Daly Cup — a tag rugby tournament hosted at Wexford Wanderers. This special tradition celebrates Aoife’s spirit, energy and love for sport.
This week’s tournament was no exception. Under glorious sunshine, students from both schools played with heart, joy and friendship — a fitting tribute to Aoife.
A heartfelt thank you to all the students who took part and to the dedicated teachers who make this event possible each year. Aoife’s legacy lives on in every pass, try and smile on the pitch.

Diverse Voices
An important job of the Inclusion Committee is to give everyone a voice. Sometimes we might unintentionally overlook the voices of those from a minority group and miss a valuable chance to learn more about our wonderfully diverse school community. In this new regular feature, we hope to share the interesting stories of students from diverse backgrounds.

Inclusion Committee:
I joined the Inclusion Committee to make sure everyone feels welcome. I have been a member since 1st year. I like the idea that there is a safe space where everyone has a chance to celebrate their differences and come up with new and fun ways to help the entire school community celebrate differences and diversity.

My Work as a Special Olympics Volunteer:
This term I asked the Inclusion Committee if we could run a campaign for Wexford Special Olympics Sports Club. This is a wonderful organisation that provides athletes with additional learning needs with space to develop their skills in a sport that they love, socialise and meet new people. I have been a volunteer since September. I currently coach gymnastics and will soon be coaching athletics and swimming. The gymnastics is every Saturday in Wexford Gymnastics for two hours and if there’s a competition coming up, we might do a few hours on a Sunday morning as well. There is a special link between Loreto and the Special Olympics as athletes train in our school grounds each Saturday morning.
I got involved because one of my classmates had autism and Down Syndrome in primary school. He was non-verbal but got involved when he was 10 and it made him so happy. My teacher saw that we had a good relationship, and she encouraged me to get involved. Now it is such an important part of my life and a regular part of my weekly routine.
I’m the youngest volunteer and this is great for the athletes as they can relate to younger people a little more. We are always looking for volunteers so get in touch on the website at the link below if you would like to get involved. It is so rewarding, and you won’t regret it: https://www.specialolympics.ie/volunteer/becoming-a-volunteer
Our School Campaign:
It is a very busy term, so we decided to focus on 2nd years for this awareness and fundraising campaign. Two adult volunteers, Denise and Mary, will speak to all 2nd years on Friday 9th of May about the wonderful work of Wexford Special Olympics Sports Club. Fundraising is a crucial part of the Special Olympics. We rely on fundraisers to operate so we will also hold a bake sale for the whole school on Friday the 9th of May. Please support this worthy cause by making a purchase at the bake sale!
My Message about Inclusion:
Always be conscious of making people feel welcome. I was raised to show respect to everyone, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, additional need, religious beliefs etc. My work on the Special Olympics and on the Inclusion Committee reflects this core value.
Loreto Drama Club
Well done to the Loreto Drama Club who treated us to a showcase of their year’s work on Friday. They performed classical and modern scenes from a variety of playwrights, along with some hilarious improvisations. A special mention to directors Lucy Lawler & Marianne Coulet
