1st Year Hockey Report

1st year B and C teams travelled to Newtown School in Waterford last Thursday, 12 April to finish off their league campaigns against the Ursuline School. Both teams were evenly matched against their opposition making for two entertaining and close games. 1st year B’s lost on a score line of 0-1 having dominated much of the second half but, unfortunately, were unable to convert  chances in front of goal. 1st year C’s won their game 2-0 with some very good pieces of play. Goals were scored by Flora Doran and Aoife Cullen.

These matches concluded the 1st Year hockey season for 2017/2018. Well done to all players for training throughout the year and a big thank you to Transition Year students who helped out with training and matches during the year. Special thanks are also due to Ms. Copithorne for all her valued assistance with hockey throughout the season.

Incidental Inspection

The Department of Education and Skills conducted an unannounced inspection of the teaching and learning of History and Geography in the school on Monday, 13 April 2018.

The Inspector’s report was both positive and affirming. She reported that learner outcomes and classroom management were very good, student behaviour and engagement were excellent and that rapport between teachers and students was also very good.

She also confirmed that the school was fully-compliant with the new child protection procedures.

Well done to all concerned.

Junior Cycle

The school has opened up a new tab on the home page of its website – Junior Cycle. We will use this section of the website to provide students and parents with information on the changes associated with the new Junior Cycle and with notification of key dates. The opening article has been written by the Science Department and relates to the 2nd year Classroom Based Assessment that will be taking place very shortly.
